The parable warns that one needs to be more careful and sensible when making friends, for some illusory "friends" can be disguised behind a candied mask and, thus, can hurt you at the right moment. One shouldn’t be a bad friend with other people either: as bad deeds and bad people will eventually get the punishment they deserve.
